The debate between conservation and development has gathered a lot of heat in the recent past, quite often giving an impression that it is a one way street for both conservation and development, one of them has to be given up for the other to survive, although it has been reiterated time and again that both are crucial for not just the survival but also a healthy ecosystem and mankind relationship. The successful REDD PLUS and Ecotourism projects across the world highlight the synergies that could be developed between conservation and development and how such projects can act as an incentive measures for conservation of PAs. The authors discuss these issues using the example of India.
